5 First-Date Tips for Women

Have a “dating buddy”

Even though dating app have become more safe by cross-checking with sex offender and criminal records, they’re still not 100% safe (nor should we expect them to be). To increase the safety, have regular check-ins with a trusted friend about the progress of the date. If available, the dating buddy can attend the date to serve as an observer; but not interact or be seen.

Do your research

Women have reported unknowingly going on dates with men who are married or have families. This either resulted from being lied to on dating apps, or if in person, omitting the information. Take time before the date to search via social network platforms or Google can provide critical information for deciding to actually meet. What you do with that information is your decision; the goal is to be more informed.

Compare intentions

There’s a fine line between being clear and being blunt. It’s usually a best practice for women to let their dates know what they are looking for in a significant. However, to prevent the guy from just parroting what is mentioned, this can be done after asking the guy what it is that he’s looking for out of a relationship.

Be curious

During the date, ask questions about him. This serves two purposes. The first is for your knowledge and comfort level. You’ll learn certain things that may be red flags or assets in the potential relationship. The second reason is to genuinely show interest in getting to know the guy. Men can tell if a question is genuine or interrogative.

Be present

If you’re genuinely interested in getting to know your date, focus your attention on him. If you’re on your phone, hogging the conversation, or legitimately have something on your mind, you may be unknowingly sending signals to him that you’re not interested. Instead, be intentional about being fully in the moment
